My name is Gian Luca Laplume. I’m a writer, filmmaker and comedian from New York City. I’ve worked on several productions ranging from local commercials to the FX series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.” As a member of Second City’s renowned sketch comedy troupe, I’ve worked closely with other performers, directors and writers to craft new scenes and develop new jokes and routines. I have also done extensive writing independently, aiming to set myself apart from other writer/performers; I took to stand-up comedy. The magnetism of performing live and the healing power of laughter have been something that has consistently given me joy and newfound strength.
I’m a self proclaimed film and T.V fanatic, my interests ranging from the acclaimed films of Lina Wertmuller, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, to the action packed films of Steven Spielberg to the animated comedies of South Park, SpongeBob and the Simpsons. As a multicultural writer that speaks both English and Spanish, I allow my inspiration to come from both languages. I can accurately express myself in both with equal clarity of message, tone and humor. I love to read and learn, without research there can be no search, and without searching for something, a piece has no life. I read to improve my writing, critical thinking skills, and even my general mood. Every story/article I write is made with the highest degree of research and attention, closely following and adapting to trends, both historical and current. However I’m not just a writer, I have a strong background in film, having produced, directed, written, edited and even acted in my own film, a student feature length project titled “Lonely is the Night,” which was honored by the Miami International Film Festival in 2019. I am a jack of all trades, however every great story begins with a written word, it is the most basic and essential form of storytelling, without this, nothing can be told. I wish to keep improving and become the best writer I can be and I’m confident that with time and a lot of hard work, I can achieve my goal.
